The Business Editor of #TheDay was a special guest on #LocalIssues Lee Howard is active in the community writing, editing, teaching college courses, moderating debates, and active in community groups where people can not only voice concerns — but can also voice solutions to the existing problems locally, nationally, and globally.

“Ask not what your country can do for you….”

Is the epitome of what Lee is striving to do in the community, and something that we all should try to ascribe to.

“Ask what you can do for your country…”

The famous words by JFK offered in his 1961 inaugural address ring true now as well. Let us strive towards kindness, understanding, peace, compassion, collaboration Certainly, your job, career, and profession are important elements of your life. But also, America is voting in one of the most important elections of our lifetime in less than two weeks — what would you be willing to do today, tomorrow, or next week for your country? Could you encourage others to vote? Could you encourage others to register to vote? Could you have a conversation with someone who has a different viewpoint from you?

The policies that our elected leaders create have enormous impact on the community and the business community. Lee has seen how the policies by people like Congressman Joe Courtney have stimulated unprecedented job growth in the region — going from some 8,000 employees to 23,000 employees at a local company over the most recent years. Of course, there is enormous need for more diversification in the economy, supporting smaller companies, supporting innovators, entrepreneurs, and more. But the famous words, “it’s the economy, stupid” ring true.
